2020 Undergraduate Honors Conference

Navigating Privilege

Organization for the Study of Communication, Language, and Gender 43rd Annual Conference

Sept. 30-Oct. 3, 2020

Norfolk, Virginia

Sponsored by Christopher Newport University

Submissions open March 1, 2020 and close June 1.

The Organization for the Study of Communication, Language and Gender is pleased to announce in conjunction with sponsorship from Christopher Newport University’s Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity its inaugural Undergraduate Honors Conference as part of the 2020 convention in Norfolk, VA. OSCLG has provided a forum for professional discussion, presentation of research and demonstration of creative projects in the areas of communication, language and gender for over 40 years. Members of OSCLG believe that interaction across a wide spectrum of disciplines is needed to foster more insightful discussion of the issues of language, gender and communication.

In order to provide undergraduates (of all experience levels) the opportunity to present their undergraduate research and creative activities related to the study of communication, language or gender, we invite submissions of professional abstracts to be considered for presentation and/or performance at the Undergraduate Honors Conference to be held at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside hotel in Norfolk. Abstracts should address directly how the student’s project is connected to the study of communication, language or gender and should not exceed 750 words. Submissions that address the conference theme of Navigating Privilege are particularly encouraged, especially those based in advocacy, activism, and social justice around issues of immigration, citizenship, non-binary communities, and other intersectional identity politics.

All submissions are due June 1, 2020. Submissions can be made at: https://tinyurl.com/OSCLGcnu

Questions about the Undergraduate Honors Conference can be directed to the planner, Dr. Michaela D.E. Meyer, Professor and Academic Director of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity, Christopher Newport University, mmeyer@cnu.edu.
