Five Decades of Purple: Honoring our Roots, Shaping our Future

The Organization for the Study of Communication, Language and Gender (OSCLG) invites scholars, artists, teachers, consultants, and activists to join in celebrating 50 years of building a community striving to conceptualize a world through feminist lens.

OSCLG was founded through a series of interdisciplinary conferences starting at Bowling Green State University in 1978 and has continued to hold space for interdisciplinary and intentionally feminist scholarship, creative projects, and activism.  This is our 50th anniversary of advancing feminist values and ideas surrounding communication, language, and gender in both the academy and the community.  Join us to celebrate five decades of purple: fifty years of centering, prioritizing, and practicing equality and equity.

In numerology, 50 is the angel number related to good health, peace, self-independence, wisdom, and freedom. We call for scholars, artists, activists, and feminists to help us celebrate those who built our beloved organization, those who are shaping it today, and envisioning a better tomorrow across [all social, political, economic, legal, etc.] contexts.  We encourage submissions  that explore the past 50 years of our organization and feminism as a whole, as well as  those that imagine  the next 50 years to envision improved contexts, raise questions, and challenge our organization to be more inclusive and impactful moving forward.
