Christopher Newport University and Ball State University invite you to join us for the 2021 OSCLG conference, which will convene at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel Oct. 6-10.
The conference will feature interdisciplinary scholarship, performances, and activism around the theme of Witnessing.
Our conference hotel is situated along the beautiful Elizabeth River in the thriving Waterside District. In this port city we will convene to bear witness together through our scholarship and pedagogy, but also to enjoy all that Downtown Norfolk has to offer. We suggest walking, jogging, or renting a scooter or electric bicycle along the 10.5-mile stretch of the Elizabeth River Trail. Walk a few blocks to the Slover Library’s Maker Studio, featuring 3D printers and a Sound Studio, and browse the shops in the adjacent Selden Market. Take advantage of the ferry just a few steps away from the hotel to visit historic Old Towne Portsmouth and enjoy the various museums and cafes. Catch the sunset at least one night at Town Point Park near the Nauticus and Battleship Wisconsin. Finally, don’t miss out on the iconic Norfolk mermaid sculptures situated all over the city.
